Packaging solutions provider Saica Group has acquired the paper and corrugated board recovery operations of FCC Ambito, extending its recovery footprint in Spain.
The transaction was carried out through Saica Natur, the group’s waste management and environmental services arm.
It includes activities in Madrid and across the northern and western parts of the Iberian Peninsula.
The acquired operations are focused mainly on the recovery of paper and cardboard, alongside other non-hazardous industrial and commercial waste streams.
Saica Group president and CEO Susana Alejandro said: “This is a strategic step that consolidates our presence in Iberia.
“This operation allows us to add a highly qualified team with recognised prestige in the sector, strengthening our value proposition for customers in the Iberian Peninsula.”
Under the agreement, Saica assumes control of seven facilities previously operated by FCC Ambito, located in Madrid, Cáceres, Valladolid, Asturias, Vizcaya, León and Toledo.
The business employs more than 150 people and reported turnover of €33m ($38.89m) in 2024.
Following completion of the deal, Saica Natur now operates 47 plants in total, including 36 sites in Spain, with additional facilities in France, Portugal, the UK and Poland.
The division’s workforce has increased to more than 1,700 employees.
FCC enviro CEO Íñigo Sanz added: “This transaction is very satisfactory and is part of our policy of asset rotation and optimisation to maximise shareholder value and focus on our development strategy.”
The Saica Group operates across four divisions: Saica Paper, Saica Natur, Saica Pack and Saica Flex.
It employs more than 12,000 people and has operations in Europe and the US.
