FlatPack is intended to help manufacturers reduce plastic use while retaining packaging protection and logistics processes.

Sitma has launched FlatPack, an automated wrapping system using paper for furniture panels, intended to serve as primary packaging in industrial production and to replace plastic-based wrapping.

The system was developed with a major international furniture manufacturer and adapted to the needs of furniture production and distribution.

According to Sitma, FlatPack is designed to help manufacturers cut plastic use while keeping packaging protection, production flow and logistics processes in place.

The system applies fit-to-size paper wrapping in continuous motion to create compact packs aimed at limiting material consumption and supporting transport efficiency.

Sitma said the inward-folding wrap design also supports pallet arrangement by improving use of space and helping keep loads stable during handling and distribution.

FlatPack brings other packaging steps into the same process.

These include adding instruction booklets and leaflets, along with hardware boxes or assembly kits, so that the various product parts remain together inside the finished pack.

Sitma said the system is built to operate across production and logistics settings, with protection for goods during storage, transport and shop-floor handling while preserving a consistent external appearance.

The company added that replacing plastic film with printable paper allows information to be placed directly on the package.

This can include product details, instructions, branding, and sustainability messaging, reducing the need for extra materials.

Tecnau and Sitma CEO Stefano De Marco said: "FlatPack represents a major step forward in combining sustainability with industrial performance.

"With this solution, we enable manufacturers to eliminate plastic from primary packaging while maintaining the efficiency, protection, and scalability required in modern production and logistics environments. It reflects our commitment to delivering tangible, production-ready innovations that support our customers' transition towards more sustainable operations."
