Sonoco is set to lift prices for uncoated recycled paperboard grades in the Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region by €60 ($70.03) per tonne. 

The company said the change is linked to ongoing cost inflation affecting its operations.  

The revised pricing will apply to shipments made on or after 15 September 2026. 

In Europe, Sonoco runs 19 tube and core facilities as well as five paperboard mills. 

Sonoco EMEA industrial paper packaging sales and marketing division vice-president Karsten Kemmerling said: “Geopolitical constraints and the continued inflationary business environment are driving cost increases across our operations and supply chain.

"Expected increases in energy and fuel costs are likely to further pressure our operating and transportation costs. As we are unable to absorb these additional costs, we are forced to pass them on to the market.” 

In April, the company disclosed separate pricing measures for the EMEA market, covering uncoated recycled paperboard, tubes and cores. 

Under that earlier move, Sonoco said it would raise uncoated recycled paperboard prices by €80 per tonne and increase tube and core product prices by 8% across the region. 

Last month, a $60 per tonne price increase for all grades of Sonoco’s uncoated recycled paperboard in the US and Canada became effective. 

Sonoco was established in 1899. It reported net sales from continuing operations of $7.5bn last year.

The company has 22,000 employees across 263 operations in 37 countries.
