Valmet has secured an order to provide a corrugator quality control system to US-based corrugated box producer Sheets Unlimited.

The equipment is intended to address production issues linked to moisture imbalance, identified as a main cause of board warp.

According to the company, the project is expected to support board quality, operating efficiency and converting results.

The scope of supply covers control of paper temperature, moisture balance, total moisture and warp through an interface with the corrugator’s existing heating elements.

It also includes moisture measurement technology and an automatic moisturising system.

Sheets Unlimited manufacturing director Krist Leland said: “We had the opportunity to see Valmet’s warp control solution in operation at another manufacturer in Europe. What stands out is its ability to address the root cause of warp: moisture imbalance.

“With this solution, we are well positioned to reduce variability, improve converting performance, and deliver products of even higher quality to both our internal and external customers.

The order was booked in Valmet’s second-quarter 2026 intake, with its value remaining undisclosed.

Delivery is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026, and commissioning is scheduled for January 2027.

According to Valmet, the corrugator quality control system combines online measurement of moisture, temperature and warp.

It is used in the control of different corrugated board grades to cut sheet warping and improve bonding.

Valmet North America automation solutions board converting automation sales manager David Maddux said: “With Valmet IQ, the customer will benefit from improved process stability, more uniform product quality, and reduced operator workload.

“This project demonstrates how intelligent automation can enable more streamlined operations and enhanced overall performance.”

Last month, Valmet obtained an order from Sun Paper for a full board production line, as well as automation systems and life cycle support, for the company’s mill in Nanning, China.
