Borealis has unveiled a new polypropylene (PP) grade packaging, which features a combination of transparent and good drop impact properties in low temperatures.
Developed mainly for packaging of deep-freeze products such as ice cream, frozen desserts and other frozen food items, the new Borpact SH950MO is based on Borealis nucleation technology (BNT).
The performance of the material is enhanced by better flow and processability with improved stiffness, both of which bring benefits and cost savings throughout the packaging value chain.
According to the Austrian chemical and plastics solutions provider, Borpact SH950MO is most suited for special closure designs, and also serves as a choice for broader consumer packaging and housewares.
The material, which allows brand owners to develop appealing articles that offer a proper view of the contents inside, enables converters to use lower processing temperatures, which support energy and cycle time savings, in combination with BNT.
Due to the grade’s organoleptics properties, the taste and odour of the packed product will remain unchanged.

By GlobalDataBorealis claims that the improved formulation and stiffness of Borpact SH950MO leads to better demoulding properties, and contributes to an overall production process.
The main aspect of the new grade is the opportunity to benefit from its improved properties to downgauge material use.
Borpact SH950MO’s both flowability and improved stiffness enable the use of thinner walls and complex designs without compromising product properties.
Borealis business unit moulding vice president Rainer Höfling, commenting on the new product said, “We have invested in creating a next generation grade with improved processability and end product performance that takes the lead in supporting the sustainability and differentiation requirements of the thin wall consumer packaging market.”
