Clariant Healthcare Packaging has collaborated with PumpArt System to introduce an airless dispensing technology called Tubairless for the pharmaceutical sector.
The new dispensing system has been developed by combining an air chamber and a soft plastic pouch sealed within a flexible tube that is said to protect sensitive cream-based formulas from the adverse effects of outside air.

According to the company, the tube features an internal pump designed to prevent air-intake and product flow-back during dispensing, reducing the entry of unwanted elements that may result in content contamination.
Multiple protective barrier or active layers can also be integrated to the tube to ensure further protection of its contents, said the company.
Clariant Healthcare Packaging business development manager Elisa Le Floch said that the Tubairless design appeals to both healthcare providers and patients.
"It not only can help address preservation issues as formulators look for ways to reduce or eliminate preservatives from formulations, but also can improve patient compliance with a user friendly experience," Floch added.

By GlobalDataThe Tubairless dispensing system enables patients to control dosage without unexpected release or splashing, allowing for almost complete evacuation of the product.
The tube system is said to posses less complexity with only three parts, compared with up to 20 with a piston pump system.
Tubairless is said to be made with 25%-50% less plastic than conventional airless tube-pumps.
The company will exhibit the new product at Pharmapack, which will be held 12-14 February 2014.
