US-based SoupMan has announced plans to launch its heat-and-serve Original SoupMan soups in shelf-stable carton packaging.

The new Tetra Recart packaging requires 22% less shelf space than traditional cans packages, is easier to ship and stock and is environmentally friendly.

According to the company, the packaging allows customers to handle the soups like traditional canned soups.

The packaging is imported from Sweden and is certified by the (FSC) Forest Stewardship Council, an international organisation dedicated to balancing environmental, social and economic aspects of forestry.

The product is set to be available US-wide from January 2012.
