NOVA Chemicals will supply CNG with rPE resin, which will be incorporated into CNG’s production of flexible packaging solutions.

The rPE, marketed under the brand name SYNDIGO, is derived from recycled film and plastic packaging, offering a reduced environmental footprint compared to virgin polyethylene.

The collaboration is expected to expand CNG’s GreenArrow portfolio, which encompasses a range of eco-friendly products, including options that are recycle-ready, contain recycled content, are compostable or have a lower carbon footprint.

The films produced using rPE are suitable for various applications, including packaging for dry goods such as cereals and overwrap for paper products.

CNG technical, sustainability and innovation senior vice-president John Garnett stated: “By commercialising PCR content into everyday packaging, we’re helping build a more circular flexible packaging economy — delivering high-performance speciality films and advanced materials that reduce virgin plastic use, lower greenhouse gas emissions and build a stronger end-market for PCR materials.”

The partnership benefits from a geographically aligned supply chain, with CNG’s facilities in Wisconsin and Ohio well-situated relative to NOVA Chemicals’ new recycling plant in Connersville, Indiana.

The Indiana facility, which commenced production in early 2025, is anticipated to produce upwards of 110 million pounds of rPE each year.

NOVA Chemicals Circular Solutions vice-president Greg DeKunder stated: “By combining our resin innovation with CNG’s manufacturing expertise, we’re advancing PCR adoption across the flexible packaging industry.

“It’s a powerful collaboration that brings together the strengths of both our SYNDIGO and GreenArrow brands.”
