The material is engineered from a proprietary blend of bagasse, a fibrous byproduct of sugarcane processing and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified fibres.

According to the company, this new board achieves premium performance standards without the use of virgin trees.

The product contains no added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

Additionally, the board is intended for compostability, supporting more circular end-of-life pathways in packaging waste management.

Emerald Ecovations said that the environmental footprint of the new board is lower compared to traditional alternatives.

With final testing underway, Emerald expects the new material to qualify for its existing sustainability certifications.

Emerald Ecovations CEO Ralph Bianculli said: “Consumers aren’t asking for change anymore – they’re demanding it. When shoppers have a choice between traditional packaging and responsible packaging, they overwhelmingly choose the sustainable option. The problem has always been access. Today, that barrier is gone.

“As regulations tighten and consumers push for transparency, packaging is becoming a brand statement. This board gives CPG companies a clear, credible way to lead.”

Headquartered in New York, Emerald Ecovations produces more than 370 eco-friendly foodservice, janitorial, and consumer products for organisations across the US.

The company markets its solutions as “tree-free, plastic-free, and toxin-free,” with many items designed for compostability in line with cradle-to-cradle principles.

In addition, Emerald Ecovations offers educational services through the “Emerald Sustainability Academy” and provides “Environmental Impact Reports” to help organisations measure and communicate their sustainability progress.
