UK-based Croxsons has rolled out Rightweight, a new glass packaging solution designed to balance material reduction and functionality in bottles and jars.
The Rightweight approach aims to remove unnecessary glass from each package while preserving product strength.

Croxsons said this method can decrease the weight of glass packaging by as much as 30%, resulting in lighter bottles and jars without compromising their structural integrity.
By reducing overall glass use, the company notes that packaging becomes easier to recycle, generates less landfill waste, and reduces extended producer responsibility (EPR) costs for packaging producers.
Among recent launches is a 330ml ‘Mountain’ soft drinks bottle using the Rightweight design, which Croxsons reports has achieved a 9.5% reduction in weight per unit.
Croxsons CEO Tim Croxson said: “Rightweight is more than just lightweighting products; it reflects our approach to bottle and jar design by creating packaging that is engineered to be exactly what it needs to be.
“As well as delivering a balance between aesthetics, performance and presentation, and increasingly between sustainability and practicality, it also helps reduce material use without sacrificing performance, ensures compatibility with high-speed filling operations, and gives customers the reassurance of quality and authenticity.”
The company has also applied this technology to its 700ml ‘Apollo’ spirits bottle, which now weighs 400g instead of the previous 575g. This bottle is suitable for spirits such as gin, rum, tequila, vodka and whisky.
Croxsons plans to extend the Rightweight technology to other products in its range over the coming months.
The company noted that the development of this solution took more than 16 years and is intended to assist clients in meeting environmental and sustainability targets alongside brand requirements.
Croxzon added: “When we develop a bottle or jar to the Rightweight standard, we consider every aspect of its journey such as how it will be filled, handled and transported; how reliably it performs on automated filling lines; how effectively it protects the product inside; how it looks and feels in the consumer’s hand; and how efficiently it uses material without compromising performance.”
