Swedish packaging technology company Yangi is moving into the US market with a line of fibre-based products aimed at the quick-service restaurant and foodservice segment.
The move is part of a broader overseas expansion supported in part by a grant from the Swedish Energy Agency announced earlier this year.

The company’s range for the sector includes plates, bowls, drink lids, and takeaway trays aimed at converters and brand owners serving the quick-service foodservice market.
Yangi plans to present the line to US customers at PACK EXPO International.
The products are made using Cellera, Yangi’s dry-forming platform for fibre packaging.
The process does not use a water slurry and removes several drying stages found in conventional wet moulding, along with related infrastructure and factory space requirements.
Yangi stated that the process can reduce process water use by 90% to 99% compared with standard wet moulding because the forming stage does not involve water.
Yangi founder Anna Altner said: “Dry forming has moved from concept to industrial reality, and Yangi built it to get there.
“Cellera is commissioned and running today, not in a lab, but on a converter’s production floor. We’ve spent over a decade making sure that when this technology reached the market, it would already be proven. Now we’re bringing that same platform to US converters, ready to run, not ready someday.”
On energy use, Yangi reports consumption of 1.8kWh/kg, against a stated 4kWh/kg to 7kWh/kg for conventional wet moulding.
Cellera has been commissioned at the manufacturing site of a European converter, which Yangi describes as an operating commercial production setting.
The company said its dry-formed takeaway trays have been used in a live foodservice setting.
The deployment was part of customer trials at Yangi’s technical centre in Varberg, conducted via a collaboration with Swedish food-truck and catering operator Flavor Boss.
Yangi chief commercial officer Hanna Rüdel said: “For US converters, that means a renewable, FSC-certified, PFAS-free material that’s proven curbside recyclable—deployable at scale, with the performance to match.”
