Innovia Films has introduced Propafilm CHBM, a metallised BOPP film for packaging structures that require high oxygen and moisture protection.

The 18 μm (0.72 mil) film is designed for use in polypropylene-based laminates as an alternative to aluminium foil.

It is intended to support mono-material PP packaging structures while maintaining barrier performance.

Propafilm CHBM offers “ultra-high” oxygen and water vapour barriers, according to the firm.

These characteristics make it suitable for products where exposure to oxygen or moisture could affect freshness, aroma, flavour, or product quality during distribution and storage.

The film has enhanced metal adhesion, high optical density, and thermal stability.

Its reverse-side treatment allows it to be used for lamination or surface printing.

Applications include high-barrier food packaging, mono-material laminate structures, stand-up pouches, flat pouches, and packaging formats where aluminium foil replacement or protection from oxygen and moisture is required.

Innovia Films EMEA packaging business unit director Alasdair McEwen said: “As brands continue to seek packaging solutions that combine high performance with improved recyclability, Propafilm CHBM represents another significant step forward.

“By delivering the barrier performance traditionally associated with aluminium foil in a polypropylene-based structure, Propafilm CHBM enables our customers to simplify packaging designs without compromising product protection.”

Separately, in March, Innovia Films introduced P2G, a clear biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film aimed at packaging fresh produce such as pre-prepared vegetables.

The material is designed for use in flow wrap applications and focuses on helping to retain the appearance of fresh goods during distribution.
