SIG said that customer demand for convenient single-serve packs for the mobile consumption of healthy and quality beverages continues to increase in Japan.

The combismile carton pack is created using paperboard made of pulp from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified sources.

It features a leak-proof and tamper-evident single action closure.

The packaging’s curved corners are designed to make it more convenient for mobile consumers by being easier to grip.

SIG’s combismile filling machine offers an increased output of 24,000 carton packs an hour, as well as flexibility, short delivery times and reduced waste rates.

Cosmo Foods president Hideki Kasai said: “The new combismile filling line will be sited at our plant in Komono.

“Cosmo Foods currently offers co-packing of beverages in plastic packaging, but we have decided to add carton packs to our portfolio because of their excellent environmental profile.

“SIG’s filling technology makes it possible for us to also fill beverages with pieces in carton packs and easily make product and volume changes.

“With this new system, we will give brand owners the opportunity to offer products with high added value.”

The installation of the machine is also expected to benefit DNP-SIG Combibloc, a 50-50 joint venture between Tokyo-based Dai Nippon Printing (DNP) and SIG.

DNP sales general manager Kazuhiro Masukura said: “Combismile offers unique high productivity and differentiation advantages that other suppliers in Japan cannot provide.

“It is the perfect solution to respond to changing regional market needs and to provide a competitive edge.”

Last month, the Dairy Farming Promotion Organisation of Thailand (DPO) chose a sustainable packaging solution developed by SIG for its new ‘National Milk’ product range.
