UK-based Macfarlane Packaging has unveiled plans to develop a new distribution centre in Glasgow, Scotland.

The new facility will be established within the recently opened distribution and storage hub of Scotland’s logistics business Bullet Express.

Macfarlane Packaging Group regional director David Machin said: "Investing in this move underlines our commitment to growing our protective packaging distribution business in Scotland."

"Our new facility at Baillieston will accommodate our growth plans at a location that is well situated to more effectively service our customer base in Scotland."

Macfarlane is investing in the new distribution centre following the acquisition of Glasgow-based Edward McNeil last month.

"Investing in this move underlines our commitment to growing our protective packaging distribution business in Scotland."

The firm is set to combine the operations of the acquired business with its existing distribution centre in Linwood to turn it into a modern facility.

The new facility is expected to complement Macfarlane’s other Scottish distribution centre in Inverness.

It will occupy a 28,000ft² space at the 190,000ft² storage and distribution hub in Baillieston.

Under the ten-year deal, Bullet Express will source all of its protective packaging from Macfarlane Packaging, in addition, Bullet Express will provide logistics services to support Macfarlane’s existing distribution service.

Bullet Express managing director David McCutcheon said: "We offer Macfarlane Packaging a warm welcome to our new site at Baillieston. Macfarlane was our first customer when we set up business in 1990 so having them on-site is particularly significant."
