Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo, a unit of Anheuser-Busch, is planning to invest $325m into two plants in Yucatan, Mexico, including an aluminium beer-can unit.
The can plant will be capable of producing close to one billion cans annually, which will replace those being currently imported.

The plant will also eventually export its cans.
The proposed investment also includes the construction of a new brewery in the region, which will take the number of local breweries operated by Modelo to eight.
The brewery unit will initially produce five million hectolitres a year, which will include Corona Extra beer and Montejo, native to Yucatan, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Construction on the two facilities will begin in the second half of the year, with commissioning planned in the first half of 2017.

By GlobalDataEconomy minister Ildefonso Guajardo said that the new plants will increase beer production in Mexico to ten billion litres annually. Mexico generated more than $1.6bn through beer exports last year.
Modelo’s rival Heineken had announced plans to invest $470m in its seventh brewery in the country to be built in the northern state of Coahuila.
Grupo Modelo produces, distributes and markets beer. The company sells its products in Mexico and exports them to approximately 180 countries.
