DSM is a leading specialist supplier of polyamides, polyesters and thermoplastic co-polymers for flexible packaging applications. DSM offers a unique portfolio of materials for speciality and barrier films, and is able to deliver the highest productivity and top quality in cast, blown film and biaxial (BOPA) processes for monolayer and multilayer constructions.
Working in partnership with converters and end-users, DSM delivers innovative solutions that improve performance in food, pharmaceuticals and medical, and industrial packaging.
DSM’s leadership in polyamide 6 (PA6) for thin film and speciality packaging technologies is helping the entire value chain – from consumers to brands; food processors and film converters – to provide better solutions to the world’s rapidly changing food packaging needs by facilitating greater convenience and increasing functionality.
Global population growth, exacerbated by increased urbanisation, is leading to increased demand for processed food in safe, easily accessible and sustainable packaging – whilst lifestyle changes are driving consumption of a greater number and variety of prepared foods.
Whether blown for greater strength or else cast into biaxially oriented PA (BOPA), polyamide nylon provides optimum barrier protection against oxygen in co-extruded structures and is especially appropriate for the packaging of fresh meat, fish and cheese without recourse to the unnecessary use of additives.
Providing a tough, puncture-resistant monolithic health barrier with excellent film characteristics, DSM’s co-polyester Arnitel resins exemplify the high CO² / low O² permeability ratio essential for most modified atmosphere packaging applications (MAP).
Arnitel’s key point of difference in comparison with competitive resins, however, is its unique facility for withstanding an extremely wide temperature range, from – 40ºC up to +240ºC, making it equally as ideal for shock freezing as for the microwave.
