Korsnäs Gävle Invests SEK 570 Million in Energy and Environment

Korsnäs Gävle is replacing its evaporator plant. The new plant will reduce oil consumption by almost 50%, cutting CO2 emissions by an equivalent amount. The total value of the investment is SEK 570 million.

The new plant is beginning to take shape. This afternoon a ship arrives at Gävle’s Granudden Docks with parts from China. Several large components will be transported by special trailer from the docks to the site of the new evaporator plant at Korsnäs. Some 100 people are already busy with assembly work at the site, and at the end of the year 150 will still be busy with extensive installation efforts. The plant will be finished in May 2010.

“This is an extremely important investment for Korsnäs,” says CEO Christer Simrén. “The plant will not only make our work more efficient, it will cut our carbon dioxide emissions in half – an achievement I’m very proud of.”

The new evaporator plant will be more efficient than the old one it replaces. Korsnäs Gävle expects major energy savings and significant environmental improvements as a result.

“With this investment we’re replacing four evaporator plants with one, which will enable us to move ahead with confidence. When it comes to evaporation, Korsnäs in Gävle will be a cutting-edge plant, which will help make us more competitive,” says Gävle mill manager Mats Törnkvist.
