US-based packaging firm Berlin Packaging has acquired Vidrierías Pérez Campos, a Spanish company that supplies glass packaging for the olive oil, home fragrance and spirits markets.

The acquisition is intended to expand Berlin Packaging’s market coverage in Iberia while giving Vidrierías Pérez Campos’ customers access to the company’s ‘extensive’ product range.

Berlin Packaging Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) CEO Paolo Recrosio said: “The olive oil industry is key for the Iberian market. The strategic acquisition of Vidrierías Pérez Campos extends our coverage to southern Spain.

“The company also possesses expertise in home fragrances and spirits, other important end-markets for Berlin Packaging.”

The acquisition is Berlin Packaging’s third in the EMEA region and its fifth worldwide so far this year.

The companies have not disclosed the financial terms of the deal.

Berlin Packaging global CEO Bill Hayes said: “Targeted acquisitions such as Vidrierías Pérez Campos are important to our European growth.

“The addition of Vidrierías Pérez Campos expands our glass packaging offerings for key markets and builds upon our strong presence in Iberia.”

After the deal has closed, Vidrierías Pérez Campos’ general manager Juan de Dios Pérez will report to Berlin Packaging.

Pérez said: “We have been offering packaging solutions for the olive oil, home fragrances and spirits markets for more than 30 years.

“Joining Berlin Packaging is an important step in the company’s development.”

Based in Chicago, Illinois, Berlin Packaging claims to be the world’s largest hybrid packaging supplier of glass, plastic and metal containers and closures.

Earlier this month, the company acquired Verrerie du Comtat, a France-based company supplying glass packaging for the wine and olive oil industries.

Verrerie du Comtat supplies glass bottles, jars, corks and packaging accessories to wine and food producers in France.

Berlin Packaging also acquired Italian glass and metal packaging supplier Panvetri in April.
