Austria-based paper manufacturer Brigl and Bergmeister has ordered two automated board and paper testing systems from Finnish company Valmet.
The Valmet Paper Lab is designed to test all grades of paper and board. The automated tests are claimed to be more accurate and repeatable compared with manual testing methods.
The modular and scalable solution provides correct and rapid measurement results that are expected to help with monitoring and controlling the quality of speciality papers from the two mills.
The financial terms of the order have not been disclosed.
Valmet will deliver the two size L systems for installation at Brigl and Bergmeister’s paper mills in Niklasdorf, Austria, and Vevče, Slovenia.
Both analysers are scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of this year.
Brigl and Bergmeister technology head Eugen Habsburg-Lothringen said: “The original motivation for these investments was the improvement of our products’ quality.
“The Valmet Paper Lab will give us the opportunity to either increase the frequency of the standard quality measurements or, on the other hand, reduce regular manual work in order to have more time for special quality measurements.”
Valmet has included the order in its orders book for the second quarter of this year.
The company has so far delivered more than 300 units to paper and board mills worldwide.
Valmet automation sales manager Markku Merra said: “We have been collaborating with Brigl and Bergmeister for a long time and they already have our automation and quality control systems, as well as analysers and measurements, in their mills.
“The end-product quality measured by Valmet Paper Labs supplements our offering and is a good continuation of our cooperation.”
In January, Valmet secured an order from Chinese company Shanying Paper for an OptiConcept M containerboard making line.
