French pet food manufacturer Demavic has partnered with Austria-based sustainable packaging company Coveris to develop bags for its new range of therapeutic kibbles.

Coveris used its MonoFlexE polyethylene film to develop a quadroseal bag, available in two variants with the capacity to carry weights of between 3kg and 10kg.

In addition to reducing packaging waste, the monomaterial, recyclable bags are designed to provide the same convenience and product safety as that offered by standard designs.

Coveris pet food segment leader Nicolas Plantec said: “Once again, we have demonstrated that our key strength is the service we provide to our customers.

“Thanks to the dedication of our team in Firminy, we were able to help Demavic successfully launch the new therapeutic pet food range to French supermarkets and fulfil all requirements in terms of sustainability with our new MonoFlexE product range.”

The two companies processed the entire range, including the manufacturing, packaging and labelling of the kibbles, in France.

Earlier this year, the products and packaging were introduced across large food stores in France.

They are expected to be made available in large, specialised stores over the coming weeks.

Demavic buyer Olivier Poupon said: “When we decided to launch a new range of therapeutic pet food, we had to think about the distribution channels we would select.

“The combination of the full recyclability of the monomaterial, the prolonged freshness thanks to the front zip and the enhanced graphics met all our needs.

“As a result, the new bag created a user and environmentally friendly image for our therapeutic pet food brand.”

In September, Coveris and paper manufacturer Brigl & Bergmeister developed PaperBarrier Seal, a sustainably sourced packaging solution.

The fully recyclable solution is designed to reduce packaging and product waste while offering comparable functionality and product safety to that of other packaging solutions.
