Unlike the InNo-Liner system, which uses water to activate a silicone-free adhesive layer just before application, Linerless Plus employs a standard format with a silicone release coating on the upper surface.

This design enables processing on standard print-and-apply machinery as well as desktop printers configured for manual labelling.

The material also adheres to other surfaces, including films.

In developing the substrate, HERMA sought to eliminate an operational compromise common to conventional linerless materials.

Standard self-adhesive stocks require substantial adhesive volume to secure a firm bond, but excess adhesive often transfers onto printer blades during cutting cycles, driving up routine cleaning and maintenance requirements.

Linerless Plus uses an in-house multi-layer adhesive coated continuously across the entire face of the label.

The structure combines high initial tack and ultimate adhesion across the full surface with clean cutting performance, curbing residue build-up on mechanical cutters and reducing the frequency of cleaning routines and part replacements, the firm noted.

The offering includes automated print-and-apply systems capable of running both HERMA InNo-Liner and Linerless Plus, as well as dedicated desktop units for Linerless Plus.

The stock is compatible with suitable linerless printing devices produced by other manufacturers.

HERMA labels division key account manager Sven Pleier said: “The labelling process, the technology used and the requirements placed on the label are all crucial factors. But for almost all labelling applications in logistics and dispatch, we can now offer linerless labelling with InNo-Liner and Linerless Plus.”
