UK-based packaging converter Kalas Packaging has installed an HP-Tresu digital folding carton printing line to offer personalised gift bag and bottle box services.
The printing line comprises an HP Indigo 30000 Digital Press integrated with a TRESU iCoat 30000 flexo coater.
The new one-stop Vanilla Reindeer web-to-print service allows consumers to order bottle cartons and rope-handled bags in different format sizes, as well as matching greetings cards.
Using an interface on Vanilla Reindeer, customers can decorate products by uploading high-definition images.
Kalas Packaging managing director Jonathan Padley said: “A one-of-a-kind package, marked with the recipient’s identity, is bound to be as well-appreciated. But demand has not been met because bag and box converting is too complex for ordinary printers to consider.
“The addition of the HP Indigo and TRESU digital printing and coating line, with variable data capability, means we are uniquely positioned to provide an immediate premium-quality personalised service that is certain to complement any special occasion.”

By GlobalDataThe combination of HP Indigo press and TRESU coater offers a single-pass printing and coating line with minimal waste and setup times for gift boxes.
The digital folding carton printing line also allows bags to be printed digitally and then laminated near-line.
The HP Indigo 30000 press features seven colours and has the ability to reach 97% of the PANTONE Colour gamut, while the TRESU iCoat coater applies UV and water-based coatings to achieve a full or selective gloss, matte or velvet-touch finish.
Operating at a maximum speed of up to 4,600 sheets per hour, the HP-TRESU integrated line can handle substrates of a maximum format of 750mm x 550mm in paperboard and metallised boards with thicknesses between 250µm and 600µm.
Padley added: “The installation of the line provides the opportunity for growth and the possibility to develop what until now has been a virtually untapped market.”
Kalas supplies plastic packaging for horticultural and food products.
