Finnish company Stora Enso has collaborated with US-based Microsoft to provide Cloud-based intelligent packaging solutions to global clients.
Stora Enso is a provider of renewable solutions in packaging, biomaterials, wooden constructions and paper.
The company’s intelligent packaging use Microsoft Azure, which is a Cloud platform designed for business digitalisation.
Microsoft’s global and scalable Cloud platform facilitates reliable and secure data collection and analytics for clients that invest in latest intelligent packaging solutions.
Stora Enso digitalisation senior vice-president, chief information officer and head Teemu Salmi said: “Microsoft Azure offers a scalable and trustworthy platform for us and our globally operating clients.
“Now packaging data can be collected and analysed anytime and anywhere, allowing customers an unprecedented amount of valuable information from supply chain performance to consumer behaviour.
“Merging renewable packaging with intelligent, Cloud-based features supports a more effective and profitable business.”
Intelligent packaging integrates the radio frequency identification (RFID) technology which allows the product to be tracked, traced and tamper-proofed throughout the entire supply chain.
The RFID technology also uses a near-field communication (NFC) enabled smartphone to facilitate communication between the brand-owner and the end-user.
Microsoft Western Europe marketing and operations general manager Marc Jalabert said: “Microsoft Azure delivers internet of things services, which Stora Enso is leveraging to better serve their customers and provide fast service development, scalability and global reach.
“Stora Enso’s intelligent packaging is a great example of the kind of innovative new services enabled by the Microsoft Azure platform.”
The Microsoft Cloud service allows all data to be collected for analytics to support and enhance business efficiency.
