Metsä Board will introduce changes to its leadership team and commercial setup to advance its strategy and reinforce its sales and commercial capabilities.

The company has appointed Maarten Florizoone as senior vice president (SVP) of sales.

Florizoone has worked at Metsä Board since 2006 in a range of specialist and management roles across sales and supply chain. His most recent post was European FBB sales vice-president.

In the new position, he will oversee the group’s global sales organisation and take charge of customer relationships and commercial delivery linked to the company’s growth plans.

Erja Hyrsky will remain commercial operations SVP and continue to run Metsä Board’s commercial operations.

These cover the company’s customer-focused operating model, development of its value proposition, revenue management, marketing and strategic growth programmes connected to the execution of its strategy.

From 4 September 2026, Metsä Board’s leadership team will comprise CEO Esa Kaikkonen, retail packaging SVP Minna Björkman, sales SVP Maarten Florizoone, commercial operations SVP Erja Hyrsky, production and supply chain SVP Laura Remes, CFO Anssi Tammilehto, and HR SVP Camilla Wikström.

The company said its external reporting structure will remain unchanged.

Kaikkonen said: “As we accelerate the implementation of our strategy, we need greater focus and dedicated leadership in both sales, commercial transformation and future growth. These changes strengthen our commercial organisation, sharpen accountability and support faster execution of our strategy.

“I am pleased that Maarten will lead our global sales organisation and that Erja will continue to lead commercial operations. Together, their respective organisations will accelerate commercial execution, customer value creation and our ability to build profitable growth.”

Earlier this week, Metsä Board decided to upgrade the winder on the board machine at its Kemi mill as part of an investment in finishing operations.

According to the company, the project is intended to improve product consistency, production performance and delivery dependability at the mill.
