Method said the bottle is 100% post-consumer polyethylene, 25% of which is plastic collected from the gyre.

By partnering with US-based recycler Envision Plastics, Method was able to use the new material, Ocean PCR, for its bottles. It has implemented a new recycling process to engineer the plastic, which is similar to virgin HDPE.

The process allows the plastic to be cleaned, removes unwanted contaminants and blends the material, which is then remanufactured into quality plastic.

Method made its first bottle entirely from post-consumer recycled plastic in 2006, since then the company has continued to develop post-consumer plastic technology.
