The project will see the addition of new production areas dedicated to PharmaGuard, SÜDPACK Medica’s polypropylene mono-material blister solution for solid-dose applications.

It will also include a new unit to regranulate plastic waste generated during manufacturing.

The German company’s output at its main site in Ochsenhausen will not be sufficient to meet projected lon-term demand.

The first stage of the Erolzheim scheme involves converting an existing hall to accommodate an ISO 7-classified cleanroom for GMP-compliant production, including a new extrusion line and a slitting machine.

A separate extension will be constructed to house the site’s technical infrastructure and the planned regranulation facility.

Construction work is due to be finalised by June 2026.

Installation of the production technology will then follow, with commissioning of the new capacity targeted for the third quarter of 2027.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the project was attended by representatives of the company and the local community.

The development is expected to generate around 50 new jobs when fully operational, with a further 120 positions anticipated by 2030 as part of later expansion stages.

SÜDPACK described the project as an important step for the family-owned group and its regional base, in line with the growth and sustainability agenda pursued by second-generation managing partners Johannes Remmele and Carolin Grimbacher since the business was established in 1964.

Erolzheim Mayor Jochen Ackermann stated: “SÜDPACK continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to Germany as a business location – even under challenging economic conditions. As a successful, forward-looking company and one of the region’s major employers, it is creating new jobs.”
