ELVIAL’s output includes aluminium used in doors, windows, lighting, cars, and medical equipment, with products varying significantly in size and shape.

To accommodate this range, the Fanfold packaging is designed with an accordion-like structure so it can be adjusted to fit different items.

ELVIAL distributes its products locally and internationally, requiring a packaging system that offers both strength and adaptability during shipping.

DS Smith Hellas Greek Cluster, packaging division managing director Giorgos Filippoglou said: “Our collaboration with ELVIAL reflects DS Smith’s philosophy around sustainability and the company’s commitment to creating packaging solutions that are designed to fit the operational needs of the customer as precisely as possible. Fanfold is a fantastic example of innovation in industrial packaging.

“The solution offers flexibility and reliable protection for customers’ products and meets with both a supply chain optimisation and sustainability agenda. We are proud that we are successfully helping our customers in the Greek industrial sectors and strengthening their position as competitors in the wider international marketplace.”

This solution uses a single sheet of fibre-based corrugated cardboard rather than multiple sheets as used previously by ELVIAL.

The design also uses less storage space, offering cushioning that removes the need for extra filling materials.

The Fanfold packaging adapts to various product sizes while aiming to provide protection and stability during transport.

It is also compatible with automated production lines without requiring changes to ELVIAL’s processes.

The approach intends to improve the use of transport and storage space and supports recycling by reducing waste and material use.

ELVIAL president Tania Tzika commented: “For ELVIAL, the superior quality and safety of our products during transportation is a strategic priority, and especially due to our intense critical export activity.

“DS Smith Fanfold offers us the flexibility we need to manage and transport products of different dimensions with confidence, while simplifying our production and supply chain processes, and helping us to reach our sustainability targets.

“Our collaboration with DS Smith is strengthening the efficiency of our supply chain and supporting our company’s overall sustainability goals.”
