US-based printer and packaging manufacturer Ultimate Paper Box has installed a new Koenig & Bauer CutPRO Q 106, a medium-format flatbed die-cutter designed for industrial folding carton production.

The CutPRO Q features a “Magic Carpet system”, a zero makeready carpet system that uses a single rack to support blanks and install the slip sheet simultaneously.

The mechanism inserts a slip sheet into the pile utilising a system developed by Koenig & Bauer’s engineering team.

For Ultimate Paper Box, the technology aims to reduce makeready time and increase production efficiency, enabling jobs to move through postpress operations faster while maintaining the precision and quality required for high-end packaging.

At the company’s 100,000ft² production facility, which employs more than 130 team members, an integrated user interface from Koenig & Bauer connects the Allpro 110 folder gluer, CutPRO Q die-cutter, and Rapida printing presses.

This will allow a single operator to integrate all of the manufacturer’s machines for complete compatibility.

Ultimate president Janak Patel said: “The new CutPRO Q gives us the automation and flexibility to meet those demands while expanding our capabilities and increasing efficiency throughout our postpress operation.”

“Koenig & Bauer’s cutting-edge technology, reliability, and exceptional support have allowed our company to optimise our workflow, and we have always appreciated our deep relationship with their entire team.

“Our new CutPRO Q is increasing our automation and precision in our postpress department, allowing production processes to work more efficiently. Waste is reduced, and the final quality of our folding cartons sets us significantly above our competition.”

In July, Koenig & Bauer introduced the CutPRO 2.1, a flatbed die-cutting machine for corrugated board applications.

The system can handle sheet formats up to 1,300mm × 2,100mm and can run at speeds of as much as 7,000 sheets an hour.
