The programme includes 74 businesses from the district and seeks to promote awareness among local islanders and tourists, reported Vietnam News Agency (VNA).

Under this programme, shops will offer environmentally friendly bags instead of plastic bags for free.

Produced using canvas, these bags can be taken at the Côn Đảo market desk.

The island contributes 70,000 tonnes of garbage to Bãi Nhát dump, VNA reported citing island’s nature resources and environment department official Phạm Bảo Ân.
