Green packaging and tissue products manufacturer Cascades has decided to close its packaging plant located in Maspeth, New York, as part of its ongoing modernisation and optimisation programme in the north-eastern US.

The closure of the plant, which is scheduled to take place before 31 December 2018, will impact 148 staff currently employed at the facility.

Cascades Containerboard Packaging president and CEO Charles Malo said: “To support our future development and better serve our customers, we are announcing today that the Maspeth plant's output will gradually be redeployed to our other facilities.

“This decision was necessary as the current site has reached its physical limits. This transition will be seamless for all of our customers.
