Munksjö, a manufacturer of advanced paper products, has added a 35 g/m² low basis weight paper to its Gerbier range to facilitate lighter and flexible packaging.
Gerbier HDS range consists of one-sided glossy papers which are easier to pack. The new low basis weight paper comes with a 12.5% weight reduction as compared with a standard Gerbier HDS 40 g/m².
The weight reduction enables a lower environmental footprint whilst maintaining quality in lamination, printing and the converting process.
The glossy papers can be used for pouches or sachets, for food and non-food end-uses such as sugar, coffee, aromatic herbs or dehydrated products.
For such applications, Gerbier HDS 35 g/m² offers the lowest basis weight on the one-side coated papers market, the company claimed.

The Gerbier HDS paper range is manufactured at Stenay Mill in France. The site specialises in the manufacture of specialty packaging papers for food and non-food flexible packaging, metallising, wet-glue and self-adhesive labeling.
In March, Munksjö added two one-sided coated papers to its range of base papers for metallising, Metalkote Expert and Metalkote Classic. These coated papers were introduced to be used in returnable beer bottles and one-way beer bottles.
