
Finland-based pulp and paper manufacturer Stora Enso has opened its new polyethylene (PE) coating facility at the consumer board mill in Beihai, China.
Following its setup in the Guangxi region in China, Stora Enso invested €31m for the development of the PE coating plant.
The new facility has been built by the company in order to meet the growing demand for PE coating in the market.
The plant has a capability to manufacture a total of 80,000t of PE-coated products each year.
PE-coated board is primarily used for products such as paper cups and food service packaging, which require protection against moisture.
Stora Enso chief executive officer Karl-Henrik Sundström said: “We are delighted to announce the official opening of the PE coating line at the Stora Enso consumer board mill in Beihai, China.

The newly developed PE coating unit will help support the company’s strategy for growth, in addition to its competitiveness, by allowing short lead-times and full quality control for PE-coated prime Food Service Board (FSB).
