Sustainable food packaging solutions firm Ahlstrom-Munksjö has expanded its Grease-Gard portfolio with the launch of new FluoroFree papers.
Grease-Gard FluoroFree grease-resistant papers are suitable for food wraps, clamshells, microwave popcorn bags, and fast-food products. They are free from per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
Ahlstrom-Munksjö North America speciality solutions business area sales and marketing vice-president Robyn Buss said: “When there is a preference to have grease-proof products without the use of PFAS, Ahlstrom-Munksjö has the unique capability of manufacturing them.
“Increasingly, consumers and brand owners are looking for a PFAS-free option, and yet they still need the product to meet FDA requirements for food contact, be cost-effective, and eco-friendly. We are uniquely situated to provide that option.”
The FluoroFree papers can also be manufactured using bleached or truly natural fibres, blended fibres, and post-consumer waste recycled options.
The company also noted that papers offer a range of basis weights, glueability and printability.
Ahlstrom-Munksjö North America Specialty Solutions business and product development head Zack Leimkuehler said: “We keep adapting our Grease-Gard family of technologies to hit every performance and sustainability goal you need.
“Our plants have been manufacturing grease-resistant papers since the 1930s, well before the creation of fluorochemistry and PFAS.”
The company’s North America Specialty Solutions team will participate in the 2019 Sustainable Packaging Coalition’s ‘SPC Advance’ conference in Seattle, Washington, US, to showcase PFAS alternatives and sustainable packaging solutions.
Ahlstrom-Munksjö offers filter materials, release liners, food and beverage processing materials, as well as decor papers, abrasive and tape backings, electrotechnical paper, glass and carbon fibre materials.
